Preparing for a Professional Home Alarm Installation by ADS

Congratulations! You’ve read the statistics, done the research, and reached the conclusion that having a professional home security system installed by ADS Security is the safest and best way to protect you and your family. Our security pros have worked with you to choose the best configuration for your home, from wireless security cameras and home automation to our private, elite monitoring system, and now installation day fast approaches!

But now what? How do you best prepare to have your home alarm system professionally installed?

Do you need to do research? (You’re doing it right now – good job!)

Clean your house from top to bottom? (Our installers can handle a few cobwebs, we promise.)

Put on pants? (Yes.)

Order pizza for the installers? (While incredibly sweet, also completely unnecessary.)

Lock up our vicious chihuahua in her crate? (Probably.)

Will your dog protect you?

We’ll make it easy on you so you can stop guessing:

Before Your Home Alarm System Installation Appointment

1. Do you need a permit from the city?

While most cities and counties don’t require a building permit when your home security system gets installed, many do require a permit called an “alarm permit” and it’s very important to call your local city office to find out if you need one and how to get one. An alarm permit lets local responders, from firefighters to police to paramedics, know that you have a monitoring service, and failure to get this permit could result in you getting a fine if responders show up at your house in case of an alarm.

2. Have you downloaded our app?

Why wait until the best home security system you’ll ever have is installed to download our app? The ADS Aniware app works with both Alexa and Apple Home, and if you download it now, you’ll be ahead of the game once your technician is ready to help you set it up.

3. Do you know where you want the keypad to go?

While our professional alarm system technicians will be able to suggest the best place for your alarm keypad, it’s ultimately your decision. In almost every situation, you’ll want it closest to the most frequently used door, but if you have multiple doors that are used just as regularly, you’ll have to find a spot that’s easy to access, simple to get to, and won’t result in false alarms because you can’t get there in time. (Or because Grandma can’t get there in time when she’s watching the house for you when you’re on vacation. If you have to sprint, it might not be the best location.) In many cases, homeowners use our ADS Aniware app to arm and disarm their system, saving them a breakneck dash towards the keypad every time they open the door. Others choose to use an ADS panel that can be desk- or table-mounted to a convenient location like a kitchen counter. With ADS, there are always plenty of convenient options!

During Your Home Alarm System Installation Appointment

1. Walk through the home with your ADS technician.

Even though ADS Security will already know the layout of your home and have planned out the placement of sensors, security cameras, and any smart home features, an initial walk-through will allow you to confirm the details completely.

2. Write down any questions to ask at the end.

While our technicians are working to secure your home with the best home security system on the market, you’ll want to take the time to write down any questions you have about your new alarm system. When they’re done, fire away! There are no stupid questions at this point in the process, because here at ADS, we want you to feel comfortable, confident, and most importantly, well informed about your new system.

3. Come up with a good alarm code.

Don’t wait until the last minute to come up with a security code for your security system. It should be a code that’s too complicated for anyone to guess, but also something simple enough that you (and your family members, even the teenager who still can’t remember to pick up his dirty laundry) can remember easily. When your technician is ready for you to set up your code, you want to have it loaded and ready to go.

4. Explore all of the options for your newly installed security system.

Take the time to sit down with your technician after the job is finished and learn everything you can about your new home alarm system. You’ll receive a welcome packet that will walk you through all of the information you need to know, from our customer portal to our referral and loyalty programs, as well as helpful tips and guides to properly using and maintaining your ADS security system. At this time, you’ll be able to explore all of the options and benefits of your new system with an expert by your side.

5. Relax, and enjoy!

ADS Security makes the installation of your professional home security system as easy and painless as possible. We will be there to answer your questions, protect your home, set up everything that needs to be set up, and leave you in a home that’s comfortable, safe, and secure.
