Mother’s Day is nearly here and although moms should be celebrated all year long, Sunday is the perfect day to let your mom know how much she means to you.
Every mom is unique and the perfect Mother’s Day gift is one that suits your very special mom! Whether she loves to hike or hit the mall, here are eight ideas to inspire you, whether you are celebrating with your own mom or a special mother-figure in your life.
1. For The Mom Who Kills Plants.
I am not a gardener but I love flowers and I enjoy being home and working out in the yard (but not too much…ahem). My husband and girls planted a Knockout red rose bush in our front yard one year for Mother’s Day and I have enjoyed the beautiful blooms year after year. Plant a special flowering bush or tree for your mom and every year it will be a reminder of how much you love and appreciate her. Just be sure to get a low-maintenance perennial!
2. For The Mom Who Always Cuts the Bread Crusts off the PB&J Sandwiches.
If your mom is always the one cooking, then give her a much-needed break. Treat mom to a meal out (don’t forget reservations) on Mother’s Day or prepare her favorite meal at home since restaurants will likely be packed. Breakfast in bed is always a classic idea!
3. For The Mom Who Needs to Be Pampered (And What Mom Doesn’t?)
A gift basket filled with pampering bath salts, bath bombs, scrubs, lotions, and other spa products in her favorite scent is a great gift for any mom who needs to take time out for herself. Consider purchasing gifts from a locally owned shop or charity to support a female entrepreneur. Add a gift card to a local day spa for an added treat and make sure someone offers to watch the kids so she can truly relax.
4. For The Mom With Little Ones With Perpetually Sticky Hands.
When my girls were in preschool and the early elementary school years I treasured every handmade work of art that featured their handprints. One of the best Mother’s Day gifts I’ve given my mom and mother-in-law was a handmade stepping stone with my girls’ handprints. You can find these kits online or at your local big box craft store, such as Michael’s. They are a sweet reminder of how quickly your kids grow up.
5. For The Mom Who Would Rather Read a Book, Than Binge Watch a Netflix Series.
If the mom on your list is a bookworm, consider putting together a book-themed gift basket that has the latest book from her favorite author, some coffee or tea, a fun mug, and a comfy throw or fun t-shirt proclaiming her love for reading.
6. For The Mom Who Doesn’t Think Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.
Etsy is a great place to find an unusual piece of “mom” jewelry that goes beyond the usual birthstones. There are many Etsy shops that feature custom handwriting jewelry that features a favorite saying or sentiment captured in their handwriting on a pendant or bracelet.
7. For The Mom Who Loves Nature.
Plan a special Mother’s Day picnic lunch and head to a local park. Be sure to handle all the details, from food to drinks, and don’t forget the details like music and a big blanket. Does the mom in your life love to hike or canoe? Plan a day out enjoying the great outdoors and take care of everything so she can relax and enjoy.
8. For the Mom Whose Kids Have Four Paws.
Do pets count as “kids?” You bet! When my husband and I first got married our first baby was a Corgi/German Shepherd Mix we adopted from the Nashville Humane Association. Frame a favorite photo of the family pet(s) or give a gift certificate for a custom portrait. Etsy is another great resource for unique, custom art.
However you decide to celebrate the mom(s) in your life, the important thing is to say thanks.
Happy Mother’s Day!
